New Work: Beinecke Library Recent Acquisitions Keepsake

Boxed Keepsakes

This spring, our office designed the keepsake for the Spring 2012 meeting of the Yale Library Associates Council.

Beinecke Keepsake Cover

Rebecca Martz, the Publications Specialist in our office, created this typographically elegant piece, which describes a selection of Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library's recent acquisitions. The cover, pictured above, features an embellished "Y" woodcut from a seventeenth-century English manuscript held in Beinecke.

Keepsake Ornament

The ornament that accompanies every section heading was taken from the cover's "Y" woodcut.

The generous leading and wide left margin create a feeling of lightness throughout the piece: the text is very legible and never appears to be cramped. Simple and consistent typographic rules (larger roman type for headings, letterspaced small caps for donor recognition) contribute to the visual and structural logic of the piece.

Type detail two.

The keepsake is bound by a single black staple.
