Codex 2.0: Turning the Conceptual Page

December 1, 2014

As part of Yale’s Program in the History of the Book, Professor Garrett Stewart will give a lecture Wednesday, December 3, at 4:30 in the Beinecke Library.

Rebecca designed the promotional flier for the lecture series. In keeping with Yale’s branding, the text is set in the Yale typeface and features the Yale logo at the bottom of the page. Tying it in with the Beinecke’s identity, the title and headings are the bright red first seen in the Beinecke’s 50th anniversary materials and retained in subsequent Beinecke pieces.

A large, bleeding “Y” letterform brands every announcement for the History of the Book program. A different “Y” is chosen to reflect the content of each semester’s lectures.

This branding system is based upon predetermining what remains constant (the large, bleeding, content-driven “Y”; text typeface; and Yale logo) and what changes (text content, format, and colors).
