Welcome Our New Rollins Fellow

July 15, 2015

This week our office welcomes our new Rollins Fellow, Cindy Hwang BK ’15. Cindy received her degree in political science, though she brings with her an extensive education in graphic design after having taken all available design courses at Yale. Over the years, we got to know her through classes, her on-campus design work, and her participation in the Lohmann Prizes and Van Sinderen Poster Competition. This past spring she won first prize for the body of work she submitted to the Lohmann & Van Sinderen Printing Prizes for Undergraduate Design.

You probably recognize some of her work from the Fall 2015 issue of The Yale Literary Magazine, as well as the Spring volume of Dimensions.

This past spring while taking a course on interactive web coding, she developed a spirited and appropriately rebellious website design for WYBC Ante-Fling.

As marketing director of WYBC Yale Radio, Cindy was involved in several design projects for radio over the course of her time at Yale.

She brings with her an astute sensitivity to typography, as is evident in some of her earlier work. Below are photos of a book she created in her Typography II course. The simplicity of her color scheme coupled with dramatic shifts in scale result in elegantly balanced compositions. In fact, one of her strongest strengths as a designer is her ability to seamlessly transition between subtlety and boldness, resulting in beautifully considered visual experiences.

We are excited to have her join our team and look forward to all that she will contribute to both our office and the visual culture here at Yale.
