The iconic New Haven Railroad logo, designed by Herbert Matter in 1954, on the tiled walls of Union Station. A Swiss-born photographer and graphic designer who pioneered the use of photomontage in commercial art, Matter taught graphic design and photography at Yale University from 1952 to 1976. Although the New Haven Railroad ceased operations in 1968, its logo can be spotted throughout Union Station, as well as on certain Connecticut Shore Line East trains.
