Happy birthday to Paul Rand, who was born on this day in 1914. A pioneering graphic designer who helped introduce the language of European modernism to American commercial art, Rand was a professor of graphic design at the Yale School of Art from 1956 to 1985. In addition to teaching on campus, Rand served on the faculty of the Yale Summer Program in Graphic Design at Brissago, Switzerland, from 1977 to 1996. Shown here is a detail of a poster he designed for that program in 1985.
