Detail of a poster of university press logos published by American University Press Services, a former subsidiary of the Association of American University Presses, which was established in 1937. The poster was likely published in the early 1980s, before Yale University Press adopted a distinctive logo designed by Paul Rand in 1985 (it has since been replaced by a logo set in a variant of the Yale typeface). The Yale Press logo shown on the poster was designed in the 1960s by Alvin Eisenmann, the former head designer at Yale Press and founding director of Yale’s graduate program in graphic design.
